1, December, 09 Tuesday, Government raided Korea Railroad (KORAIL) union
head quarters in Yongsan, Seoul, issued 15 arrest warrants, including its leader Kim Ki-tae. The government defined the walkout as "illegal" in an address issued by the relevant ministries Tuesday afternoon at the Gwacheon Government Complex in Gyeonggi Province.
"We urge the KORAIL union to withdraw from the illegal strike and return to their duties," Strategy and Finance Minister Yoon Jeung-hyun said. "The walkout has inflicted severe damage to the economy."
Police raided a Yeongdeungpo office of a civil servant's union Tuesday claiming union was engaged in illegal activities, including the distribution of leaflets calling for civil servants to join a street protest organized by the country's main umbrella union. The integrated civil employees union of three separate unions, tentatively called the Korean Government Employees' Union (KGEU), was to officially launch and to register its establishment with the Labor Ministry later on Tuesday.
The merger, as well as a decision by the KGEU in September to join a militant labor group, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, has led to tension with the government.

Export and import containers in Busan and Gwangyang are facing major delays. “The inland container delivery trucks in Uiwang, Gyeonggi, usually receive 300,000 won [$256] to 350,000 won for a day’s work, but today it’s difficult to find a truck even when raising the price to 700,000 won or 1 million won,” said Park Sang-joon, an executive at the Korea Rail Logistics Association. Officials switched drivers from passenger trains to cargo for the day. (Sunday). Today 4,000 passengers had to cancel trips. Seoul central station was packed. Officials telling passengers to take car or bus to destinations. Emergency staff are getting physically tired.
11/26/09 Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs added 5,500 emergency workers from retiree's, office workers, and military personnel who hold licenses for train operations.
Starting Sunday, 86 percent of subways and trains will be in operation from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., the busiest morning commuting hours. Only 65 percent of trains and subways will be operated after that. Three unions will combine next month for more strikes.
11/25/09 Wednesday,South Korea railroad on indefinite strike as from 9am today. Expect severe confusion, packed trains. Thousands of commuters will be disrupted. Same with cargo expect 96 percent of cargo to be paralyzed. Members from The Korea Railway Workers Union trying to get government back to the table for talks. Issues involve downsizing, wage cuts and reduction in welfare programs.

5, 6 November, 2009 Seoul and metropolitan areas, rail strike. Trains were canceled at Seoul, Yongsan and Yongdeungpo stations. Seoul Station, 10 trains to Busan cancelled. Thousands of passengers were online for a refund or switch trains. Three trains were cancelled at Yongsan Station. On Friday metropolitan railway workers will join in. 60 percent of the normal workforce was manning local train and metropolitan subway services.
