10 December, 2012 Wildcat strike today by German airport security workers. Lufthansa canceled 90 flights.  Strike was anywhere from 6-9am, worst back up was Cologne/Bonn and Baden-Baden/Karlsruheas. Frankfurt was not effected at all. Also figured into this mess was delays due to bad weather. German government has to do some changes in the law about these wildcat strikes. Even Spain has to give a weeks notice by law.

Update Air traffic control strike for tomorrow is deemed illegal, no strike by German ATC tomorrow.
Tuesday 28 February 2012 German air traffic controllers will strike tomorrow at Frankfurt International airport only from 0400-1000 UTC. Lufthansa airline trying to get a court injunction. If not expect severe delays and cancellations, will take several few hours to get back to normal.

25 February Back again negotiations between union GdF and Fraport regarding Frankfurt International airport workers have failed. New strike now planned from Sunday 26 February, 2012 8 PM till Thursday 1 March 4 AM.
(I am going out on a limb here.  GdF union will eventually get annoyed at paying the 200 or so workers salary (on the other foot for a change). Yes this is a wealthy union but you know this will irritate them sooner than later. I suspect they will then recruit other airports to join in as management is not going to budge)

Update:- Sunday 19 February, 2012 Industrial action Frankfurt airport workers will strike again tomorrow Monday 20 February, 2012 for 24 hours. It's possible your flight maybe cancelled or diverted. Call your airline or travel agent.

Frankfurt Airport only to be effected. German air traffic controllers on strike tomorrow Thursday, 16 February, 2012. Not so bad now. Hours are from 2 PM - 9 PM GMT. Bring a book, call your airline. Still a major pain in the neck. Lufthansa Airlines to be hit hard. Check our front page for updates.

Remember last August strike threat by German air traffic controllers union  that never came about but led airlines to cancel and re-route flights? Air Berlin, Lufthansa and Ryanair are suing the union for damages

Dozens of flights were bought forward. Some long hauls were cancelled. Parties will now be involved in meetings for the next four weeks. Airlines may try and get compensation from German union.

7 August Sunday After a week-end of flight delays, news of  strike for this week possible uk.reuters.com
We suggest if flying in or out of Germany this week book a hotel at the airport for just incase. You can always cancel later in the day.
4 August Union meeting again today, deciding whether to strike or not next week. They only have to legally give 24 hours notice for industrial action. Airlines looking to lash out at German ATC union for just "the mention"of a strike sends passengers and airlines in a turmoil.
Spain comes to mind last year. What's that old saying "What goes around comes around" typicallyspanish.com

3 August 2011 Update:- German air traffic control strike cancelled. Judge deemed it illegal. Union can appeal to a higher court.
3 August A judge will decide later today if the strike is legal or not.

2 August German air traffic controllers may strike this Thursday 4 August for six hours 0400 GMT until 1000 GMT. Will effect all airlines and know doubt take a day to get back to normal. Call your airline. Last time they threatened strike a hired car was hard to find.
Check back with us, you never know perhaps it will be cancelled.
Germany’s air traffic control authority has some 6,000 workers some 3,400 belong to the GdF union. Negotiations stalled, union looking for a 6.5% pay raise. Management offering 4.1% over two years. 95% of workers voted for industrial action. Average starting out pay for Air Traffic Controller earns 120,00 Euro's/$130,000

Last time
28, April, 2010.  ATC's formalized contracts today.

Update:-16, April, 2010 German air traffic controllers signed a "preliminary" agreement not to strike. Will sign a deal by 28, April.

13, April, 2010 GdF union leader Bernd Bockstahler told AP today walkouts could begin as early as Monday. Exact timing and the scale of the walkouts would be announced with 24 hours notice.
He hinted that the strike could begin at one or two mid-size airports,  (Stuttgart?) disrupting air travel but not paralyzing one of the biggest hubs such as Frankfurt or Munich.

10, April, 2010, Traveling in and out of Germany?, Via  International airports, Frankfort and Dusseldorf? German air traffic controllers threaten strike.

Union GdF say talks with German air traffic control company Deutschen Flugsicherung, or DFS have broken down. No date is set for a walkout, yet. More talks due this Monday, 12, April. GdF union only has to give a 24 hour strike notice and German law states that a quarter of air traffic must fly.

All German air space will be effected. Airports,Munich, Hamburg, Cologne/Bonn, Berlin, Schonefeld airports. Eventually affecting all  international travel world wide.

German air traffic controllers earn on average 72,000 to 13,000 euros per year.

9,400 euros (12,500 dollars) a month,  26 to 36 hour work week.

Who knows if this is possible. If you have to absolutely positively have to be in/out of Germany, why not change your flight to one of Germany's bordering countries ie:-Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland,  France, Luxembourg, Belgium or The Netherlands?
